Lifestyle Lens Options

At CorrectVision Laser Institute we offer multiple lens options to ensure your cataract surgery outcomes fit your lifestyle:

• Standard Monofocal IOLs – Designed for sharp distance vision, these lenses are usually covered by Medicare and other insurance plans. Glasses may still be necessary for reading, and in some cases, distance vision, especially if you have astigmatism.
• Premium Monofocal IOLs (example: RxSight LAL) – The Light Adjustable Lens is the first and only adjustable IOL that can be customized after cataract surgery to allow your lens shape and power to be adjusted after cataract surgery to provide optimized vision results.
• Premium Toric Monofocal IOLs – Now you can have your astigmatism as well as your cataracts corrected in one simple surgery. With this advanced technology, most people only use glasses for reading.
• Premium Multifocal and Extended Depth of Focus IOLs (example: Tecnis Symfony) – Imagine the possibility of not needing corrective glasses anymore! This intraocular lens can help you see both near and far so you may enjoy being glasses-free.
• Premium Trifocal IOL (example: Tecnis Synergy and AcrySof IQ PanOptix) – Designed to provide a continuous range of focus without glasses for far vision, intermediate vision for computer, tablet and phone use, as well as close-up vision for reading.

Premium IOLs, femtosecond laser-assisted cataract surgery and other specialized diagnostics are not covered by provincial health care. These services are an additional cost to patients because they are not deemed medically necessary. Newer innovations for cataract surgery aim to enhance refractive outcomes for patients who are hoping to be independent of glasses or contact lenses but at a financial cost.

RxSight™ Light Adjustable Lens

The RxSight™ Light Adjustable Lens is the first and only adjustable IOL that can be customized after cataract surgery. With this lens, Dr. Bosem can alter the shape and power of your new lens in the weeks after your surgery to truly meet your vision goals and lifestyle requirements. The cataract surgery process (lens removal and replacement lens implantation) is the same as our typical cataract surgery process.

How the Light Adjustable Lens Works

The Light Adjustable Lens is made of a special photosensitive material that can be adjusted in response to ultraviolet (UV) light. After your eye has healed from cataract surgery (about 2-3 weeks after surgery), Dr. Bosem will schedule an initial light treatment. He will place you in front of a Light Delivery Device for approximately 90 seconds, allowing UV light to adjust your vision. This process in non-invasive and painless. A secondary treatment will be done 3 days after that. Additional light treatments can be done, if needed, 3 days after each treatment. When you have reached your vision goals, a final light treatment is used to lock in the results.

UV Protective Glasses are Mandatory During Treatment

Exposure to indoor and outdoor sources of UV light can cause uncontrolled changes to the Light Adjustable Lens until all light treatments are completed. It is imperative that you wear special UV protective glasses provided during all waking hours (from time of lens implantation until 24 hours after the final lock in light treatment is completed).

We will provide you with a clear pair of protective glasses to wear indoors and a tinted pair to wear in bright sunlight conditions. The glasses may be removed when sleeping and may be temporarily removed when showering, washing the face or applying eye drops as long as you are not exposed to direct sunlight. 

TECNIS Symfony® IOL

CorrectVision Laser Institute is proud to offer our cataract patients who need reading glasses (presbyopia) the first and only presbyopia-correcting Intraocular Lens (IOL) option with extended depth of focus: the TECNIS Symfony Extended Range of Vision IOL. 

During cataract surgery in South Florida, the cloudy lens is removed and replaced with an artificial IOL. There are various types of IOLs that offer different levels of vision after surgery: monofocal (one distance only), multifocal (multiple distances) and Toric (for patients with astigmatism). The FDA-approved Symfony IOL is one more option that we offer for patients who desire a more broad range of vision, including up close reading.

Acrysof IQ PanOptix® IOL

The Alcon AcrySof® IQ PanOptix® Trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) is now a replacement lens option for cataract surgery patients. CorrectVision Laser Institute is proud to be the first practice in South Florida to implant this revolutionary lens for our patients.

PanOptix is clinically shown to deliver an exceptional combination of near, intermediate and distance vision while significantly reducing the need for glasses after surgery. Most patients who choose this lens are able to read text messages on their smart phones, work on a computer and even drive without the need for glasses. This is due, in part, to ENLIGHTEN®Optical Technology, a proprietary design that optimizes intermediate vision without compromising near and distance vision.

Cataracts have a way of limiting your activities because they cause your vision to become blurry, cloudy and yellowed. In addition, as we grow older, our eye lenses naturally start to lose flexibility. This is called presbyopia and it is the reason many people over age 40 need reading glasses. Patients who live active lives may choose to upgrade their cataract surgery by choosing this trifocal lens, rather than a monofocal lens that only offers clear vision for one distance (typically far away vision). The PanOptix lens can also provide astigmatism correction!
